When it’s your birthday there’s absolutely no excuse not to have cake!

Isn’t that what birthdays are for? 😅

Birthdays are extra special celebrations. They mark another year of accomplishment on this earth.

You might not feel that you’ve achieved much in the last year but the fact that you’re still here means you still have new heights to reach!

Remember your best days are ahead of you, not behind.

So what steps can you take to ensure that you go on to live your best life? Here are a few ideas.

What Are Your Goals?

Keep yourself inspired by setting yourself goals.

You want to live your life on your terms and not someone else’s.

If you have not set any goals for yourself then you need to do this.

Always bear in mind that the goals that you set are for your benefit and not for anyone else’s.

Journal Your Goals

It’s no use just setting a goal or goals and then not seeing how well you are moving towards it.

I recommend that you use a journal to record your progress every day.

This will assist you to focus on the important things that you need to do to move a step closer to achieving your goal.

Don’t be influenced by others here.

If you have set a goal for weight loss and you know that your friend lost 20 pounds in two months it does not mean that you have to do the same.

We are all different and so are our bodies. Some people will lose weight faster than others.

You always need to go your own way when planning and working towards achieving your goals.

If it takes you a few weeks longer to lose the weight than someone else this is not important at all.

Learn Something New For Your New Year

If you want to acquire a new skill then set a realistic time frame for this and take into account your pace of learning and the time that you can realistically dedicate.

Please take note here of the very important part of this which is “you want to improve”.

Don’t try to improve your life because others tell you that you need to do this.

You are far more likely to succeed if you really want to make improvements that come from within.

When you make improvements to your life you will boost your self esteem and increase your confidence.

These are both very powerful in your quest to stop making unhealthy comparisons.

Forget About Perfectionism

Forget about perfectionism when you are working to improve different areas of your life.

No need to lower your standards but remember there is no such thing as perfect.

If you strive for perfectionism then you are very likely to achieve nothing.

Good enough is fine, even if just for starters.

Where It All Began – My Birthday!

Now here’s a brief history of my own birthday experiences.

See how it compares to yours.

My mum used to tell me that I was born in freezing cold weather. Apparently the winter of 1962/63 was bitter with a lot of snow.

I was named after the two nurses who delivered me at Mile End Hospital i.e. Joyce and Lilian.

I don’t remember celebrating a great deal in my childhood birthdays.

Nowadays it’s all about parties and presents but back then it was probably a card and a song!

Sharing Your Birthday But Still Unique!

At secondary school there was another girl in my class with the same birthday as mine.

I didn’t really care about it at the time but I know some people don’t like sharing the limelight with someone else.

Your Majority Birthdays

I remember approaching my 18th and being in slight mourning that I was reaching my majority!

On my 21st birthday I marked the day by going to have my picture taken at a studio. I was wearing a pink dress with frills at the front and grey stiletto shoes.

That morning I hadn’t eaten anything because I wanted my stomach to stay flat for the photo. My mum wasn’t too happy about that!

The only other birthday I made a fuss of was my 40th when I threw a party for it.

It must have been maybe my 19th or 20th when I decided to celebrate at the midnight hour i.e. the top of my birthday, with a whole box of chocolates to myself.

I really thought I was going to have a thrilling time of it. Instead I ended up feeling sick!

Birthday Cake And Wine

Whatever I’ve done, whether going out or staying in, it always involved cake!

Also a continuing feature was ginger wine. My dad used to buy it on my birthdays. Occasionally I will buy myself a bottle at this time in memory of this.

The other tradition my family had was putting up our Christmas tree on my birthday.

When you have a December birthday all the celebrations get rolled into one.

I’m no longer into Christmas so now it’s all about my birthday.

What Level Are You At In Life?

Level 30

I read somewhere that rather than marking our birthdays in years, we should count them as “levels“.

So your 30th birthday would mean you’ve reached “level 30” in life experience.

Sounds good to me!

Wonderful Life With Cake!

The one and only.

You’re marking the day that a unique individual with a marvellous destiny arrived in the world.

Keep on moving forward – there are more missions for you to accomplish which no one else can fulfil but you.

Just like in the film “It’s a Wonderful Life”, you make a difference in the world and it would not be the same without you!

“No one else is you, and that is your superpower.”

Bon appetite!

Comment if today is your birthday!
