Why I Don’t Argue with Closed-Minded People

There’s a saying that goes “Pride is concerned with who is right. Humility is concerned with what is right.”

Have you ever found yourself in a heated argument with someone who simply refuses to see things from your perspective?

You present facts, logic, and reasoning, but no matter what you say, they remain closed-minded and unwilling to consider any alternative viewpoints.

In situations like these, I have learned that arguing with closed-minded people is simply not worth the time or energy.

Arguing with people on social media platforms is especially not worth it.

It Gets Frustrating

Arguing with closed-minded people can be so frustrating.

No matter how much evidence or reasoning you present, they have already made up their minds and are not open to changing their opinions.

This stubbornness can lead to endless back-and-forth debates that go nowhere, leaving both parties feeling angry and defeated.

Why Waste Your Energy?

Engaging in arguments with closed-minded people can be a draining experience.

It takes a significant amount of mental and emotional energy to keep trying to get through to someone who is unwilling to listen.

Instead of wasting your time and energy on fruitless arguments, it’s better to simply agree to disagree and move on.

The Importance of Open-Mindedness

One of the key reasons I choose not to argue with closed-minded people is because I value open-mindedness.

Being open-minded means being willing to consider different perspectives, re-evaluate your own beliefs, and engage in meaningful discussions.

When someone is closed-minded, there is no room for growth or learning, making it nearly impossible to have a productive conversation.

Determined Not To Let Go

Ironically, arguing with close-minded people can inadvertently strengthen their convictions.

When they feel challenged, they tend to dig in their heels and become even more entrenched in their beliefs.

Not only that, but it’s common to find people on social media especially, who are just spoiling for a fight.

Oh Lord, have I learned to walk away from that!

It’s like trying to put out a fire with petrol – it only makes the situation worse.

It’s Not My Responsibility

I believe that everyone has the right to hold their own opinions, even if I disagree with them.

It’s not my responsibility to change their minds or convince them of my viewpoint.

We’re all grown so I respect their right to their beliefs and choose to focus my energy on those who are open to listening and engaging in constructive discussions.

Setting Boundaries for Self-Care

Arguing with closed-minded people can take a toll on your mental health and well-being.

It can lead to stress, frustration, and even resentment if you constantly try to change someone’s mind or prove your point.

You’re prioritising your own self care and emotional health by setting boundaries and choosing not to engage in arguments with closed minds.

Disengage and Walk Away

I firmly believe that arguing with closed-minded people is a fruitless exercise.

Instead, I choose to engage in conversations with those who are willing to listen, learn, and consider different perspectives.

While it might be tempting to argue futile debates with close-minded people, it’s a waste of your time and energy.

Recognize when it’s best to disengage and walk away.

By valuing open-mindedness, setting boundaries for self-care, and choosing not to engage in arguments that go nowhere, you can save yourself from unnecessary stress and frustration.

Remember, it’s okay to agree to disagree and move on to more productive and fulfilling conversations.

A fool has no delight in understanding, but in expressing his own heart. Proverbs 18:2
